Look at Bonnie starting to trust me!!

Some times people don’t understand with every new rescue comes new responsibilities, new money demands, new issues between your current residents. A LOT goes into even just one single rescue.

I live in an area off the beaten path and it feels like there are about 4 vets in the entire state of CA that work on pigs. Lol

Bonnie is a little too big for our vet to spay her so she helped us find another vet about 2 hours away that can help. So TUESDAY I’m going to drop everything and Bonnie and I are going to get on the road at 5am to get her spay! Yay!

I can’t wait for the day more vets graduate and want to work on farm animals!! We need you!

💚 Today we almost finished the new chicken coop for Whitney (something that wasn’t on our radar when we adopted Bonnie & Clyde)

💚 Fenced in more corral for Bonnie’s new area while she waits for her spay (Clyde and her have to be separated for about 4 weeks)

💚 Worked on our future veggie garden plans! (This will help feed the animals yummy goodness)

💚 Along with all our normal chores for all the animals that can’t be neglected!! Summer brings on more chores as there’s waters that need to be constantly checked since it’s so hot here, mud pits that constantly need to be filled and just overall checks on the animals to make sure everyone is staying as cool as they can.

💚 Oh and I got a real estate deal together for my clients in the middle of all that! We have to hustle for these animals!!

That one time we had a baby goat and a baby pig living in the house with a LOT of hay 🤣

I think we made a rule shortly after this only one farm animal in the house at a time buttttttt it’s kind of no rules ranch over here so we’ll see how the future plays out!

If you haven’t heard….. Whitney is actually a rooster, not a hen!! I heard him trying to crow yesterday so that was a dead give away 🤣

Which makes sense. He was found alone in a city that doesn’t allow chickens… what seems to be happening is that people are getting backyard chickens- probably due to high egg prices and even tho it’s against city ordinance they are doing it which I believe it’s creating some backyard chicken breeders…

What does a breeder do when they have an unwanted animal they can’t sell? They dump it! As a tiny baby! ☹️

I see all the time people buying baby chicks and end up with one or two roosters and then don’t want them. It has never made sense to me. I love having Roosters with my Hens. They help keep them safe. Let me know of any danger and just keep the flock together.

I am not most people so now that I know Whitney is a Roo, and since Stan, our other Roo was raised to kill roosters as a fighting chicken I don’t think they will have the best friendship so Robert and I are working on building Whitney his own bachelor pad and once I get that situated I’m on the hunt to rescue a few hens so he can have his own flock!! Just a little rearranging… 🤣 I’m glad he ended up at Sanctuary tho because who knows what his fate would have been once someone found out he was a rooster. He will get to flourish to his full potential!! I may never have some hens that want to cuddle but I will have a Roo that wants too!! :-)

The joyful moments of sanctuary. These are the moments I live for. We have been going going going for the past year. It’s so nice to sit back and take it all in now. The hard work is never done but I love enjoying these sweet moments with my babies.

Farm animals are just like cats and dogs. They all gravitate toward me when I am with them. They want love and comfort. We selfishly domesticated animals for ourselves, and now we need to clean up the mess we made. Please please adopt. Every kind of animal needs to be adopted at this point.

Meet Bonnie and Clyde!! Our friends over at @allthingshoovedanimalrescue called us about doing a pig transport for them. They busted these babies out of the shelter and had them in a foster who could no longer keep them. Once we found out more info on these two we could let help but keep them together over at Laster Ranch!

They are probably about 6 month old piglets, found as strays by the shelter and pretty scared so the shelter couldn’t adopt them out and this shelter also happens to be a high kill shelter…

Thank goodness @allthingshoovedanimalrescue stepped in to find a foster for them in time and now look!

Bonnie has had a hard start to her life as she was pregnant at 6 months old. After our vet checked out her we all decided she wasn’t very far along and it would be best for her to live out her piglet days as just that.. a piglet and not a mama!

We are so happy to shower these babies with love. They’ll be in quarantine for a few weeks until they can be introduce to everyone but we cant wait to have Teddy, Layla, Bonnie and Clyde rolling around together causing trouble!

Just call me the crazy pig lady. 😻

My heart is SO full from yesterday!! I’m so thankful to have such amazing friends and family to support us thru this journey!!

My vision for this rescue was not only to be able to open my home up to unwanted, discarded animals but to be able to share this experience with friends, family and the community so we can all better understand how to live a cruelty free lifestyle. It’s truly amazing when people come together what can happen and the love that can come from that. COMMUNITY 💚

We can not wait to have more fundraisers and foodie get togethers with all of you!! This is such a magical place and I want you all to come and experience with us.

Some people say chickens are dumb. I’m still trying to figure out what a dumb animal means!

Every day we have the same routine and she knows it. I take her outside in the am and we play a little, then she hangs with the chickens for a bit and before evening time she knows I’m coming to get her for our walk to bed.

She talks to me about her day and let’s me give her kisses, and if I put her to bed without chatting before I close the door up she will scream very loudly till I come Back for our normal routine 🤣

I love this little chicken so much!!

This is basically the only smoothie I make!!

Green smoothie
1/2 lemon - entire lemon minus the peel, lightly chopped
1/2” piece of ginger. Wash and leave the skin on. Lightly chopped
1 celery stick sliced
1/2 cucumber sliced
2 strawberries
1/2 banana sliced
3-4 pieces of mango - I buy these frozen so I don’t have to cut it
2-3 handfuls of spinach or any green
Plus Water

Once you add everything to the blender you will add water to measure about half of what’s in your blender and 2-3 ice cubes and blend until very smooth!! Depending on the green you use you may need more water so I keep a cup of water nearby while blending in case it needs more.

This makes TWO GIANT cups so I’ll keep one in the fridge for the next am. It won’t have as many nutrients as the first day but it has enough.

Smoothie tips

💚 I freeze the greens separately so they hold on to their nutrients instead of losing them sitting in the fridge.

💚 Don’t use the same green every week. Our bodies get used to the same nutrient over and over again so you have to switch it up!

💚 Chopping all veggies once you buy them and adding the right quantities to a reusable bag makes smoothies so easy. Just pull out of your freezer when you’re ready. Plus freezing fruits and veggies makes all nutrients last longer.

💚 In order for our guts to digest smoothies we really need to start “chewing” them. Our bodies digest food because we are swallowing our saliva with the food which aids in gut health and digestion so I like to swirl the smoothie in my mouth and then swallow. I know it sounds weird but it is so beneficial

💚 This is not a meal replacement! I usually do this for a snack or add it to my breakfast and it keeps me full for so long.

We had a little bit of a scare with precious Phoebe yesterday!! She got her head/neck stuck in part of the fence and then Monica and chandler were ramming her and she was screaming in pain! I ran down and got her out of it but you can tell she was scared because she hugged me with her head for 5 mins! Phoebe is not a cuddler at all so I just let her rest her body on me, soaking up my precious baby’s love and letting her know I’m there for her.

Rachel was shaken up too because once Phoebe and I calmed down all Rachel wanted was pets! She was nuzzling me and even let me give her a kiss (see end of video) later for dinner both the girls were back to their spunky selves with Phoebe not wanting to be smothered and Rachel not wanting me to touch her 🤣

Rachel was giving Phoebe kisses after I got her head out!! She is head over heels for that girl!!

In this entire process I was also screaming for Robert because I was having a hard time and Jeff came running over with concern and then did not want to be out of my sight for the entire day and night.

It was scary but I’m glad the animals know I’m there to protect them. This is the stuff I did not think about when starting an animal rescue. I’m sort of a baby when it comes to things like this so it really scared me too. The love I have and give to these animals is so strong that when stuff like this happens it really scares me. I’m not sure I’m strong enough for the hard things that come with rescue. But I am trying. And I promise to do my best. It might land me in a mental hospital if anything ever happens to my babies but that’s the risk I am willing to take to give them a good life!!
